Controller Aim Has No Effect

Symptoms:

  • “Use Controller for Aim” is on
  • Gamepad Tester shows the virtual right stick deflecting
  • …but the in-game camera doesn’t move

This is almost always a the game sees two controllers problem.

Checklist

1. Gamepad Tester confirms PowerAim is writing

Open Gamepad Tester (Gamepad sidebar or Mapping page). With Use-Controller-for-Aim on and the aim key held in-game, the virtual right stick (right side of the tester) should visibly deflect.

If it doesn’t:

  • Verify ViGEm is set up — see Gamepad Not Detected
  • Verify the model is detecting a target — switch to ESP and look for boxes

2. Game is reading the physical controller, not the virtual

The most common cause. Symptoms:

  • Tester’s virtual stick deflects
  • Camera stays still
  • Sometimes camera drifts back toward center if you nudge the real stick

Fix: cloak the physical controller. Two paths:

Option A — HidHide

  1. Install HidHide if you haven’t (Gamepad page → Install HidHide)
  2. Toggle Auto Hide Controller on
  3. PowerAim auto-cloaks your physical pad from non-whitelisted apps

Option B — Device disable

  1. Gamepad page → Hidden Controllers (button)
  2. Find your physical controller in the list
  3. Click Disable

Re-enable on PowerAim exit, or PowerAim will re-disable on next launch.

See Hidden Controllers for the full discussion.

3. Game is gamepad-locked to “Player 1” and your virtual pad is “Player 2”

Some games bind the first gamepad they see and ignore subsequent ones. Solution: cloak the physical one (above) so the virtual is “Player 1”.

4. In-game stick sensitivity is too low

The virtual stick output passes through the game’s internal sensitivity. If the game’s gamepad sensitivity is at minimum, PowerAim’s deflection won’t be enough to move the camera meaningfully.

Bump the game’s sensitivity until it feels right, then re-run PowerAim’s Calibration Wizard.

5. Game has a heavy stick dead-zone

Most console FPS games apply a 0.15–0.25 internal deadzone. PowerAim’s deflections must exceed that to register.

Counter:

  • Profile editor → Stick Anti-Deadzone. Set it to 0.15–0.20 — PowerAim’s first non-zero deflection will snap above the game’s deadzone.
  • Or just bump Mouse Sensitivity in PowerAim higher.

6. Aim assist is fighting in-game aim assist

Many gamepad FPS games have native aim assist that “magnetizes” toward enemies. If PowerAim deflects toward an enemy and the game’s own assist deflects toward a different enemy, the two cancel out.

Counter:

  • Disable the game’s native aim assist if possible
  • Or accept that PowerAim’s effective sensitivity is reduced

7. Game completely ignores ViGEm

Rare but possible. Some anti-cheats refuse virtual gamepads. Try:

  • vJoy send mode instead of ViGEm (Gamepad page → Send Mode)
  • Internal mode (pure managed fallback)

If none work, the game’s anti-cheat blocks every virtual controller — there’s nothing PowerAim can do.
